New Years Resolutions 2014
It’s the second week of January 2014, and judging by my new years resolution checklist, the year is going pretty good for me so far. Why am I telling you about them? Because this is what my blog is going to be about, the year 2014, my goals, and whatever comes in between.
#1 read more:
Every year, I challenge myself to read 50 books. The closest I ever got was 30 books, but I am still proud of that. That’s more than my brother has read in his lifetime. This year I added a little twist, from the 50 books, 15 have to be from books I have already bought, that are in my bookshelf (I have almost 100 unread books on my bookshelf. Yes, it’s an obsession, but they are always all so shiny, and smell so nice… uhm *coughs*).
I only wanted to buy new books this year for online book club things, but I already broke that rule in the first week. I’m still going to try to read those 15 books from my shelves though.
I know, according to the widget, it’s not looking that good. On GoodReads it even says I am already one book behind, but: I have started and gotten halfway two books this year already. And I intend on finishing them soon.
#2 run more:
‚Run more‘ is very vague, considering I was never ever good, nor interested in being good in sports. But I am 22 and should not get out of breath from walking up a flight of stairs. Also, I always gain some weight over the holidays, the last Christmas more than ever, and I just want to fit into my jeans again. I’m lazy and don’t want to have to buy new ones.
So: I went jogging this year! Luckily my better half is joining me with this resolution. We already went four times, which will make for a good rhythm of three times a week if we stick to it this way. I invested money in some sporty clothes and proper shoes, so we’d better. 😉
#3 write more:
I am a wanna-be writer. Last year I finished two 50k+ word stories. And even though nobody will ever read them or be interested in them, I am proud of those words. This year I want to try to write two 50k+ word stories again. Last week I found new inspiration for an old SciFi idea and am obsessed with it by now. I’d say I’m on track with this goal too.
#4 learn more:
Another one of my obsessions are languages. For example I am writing this blog in English even though my mother tongue is German. I want to learn and improve. The same goes for French, which is why part of this goal is, to read a French book. A proper book, not one of those easy learning crime novels which have translations in them. My vocabulary just isn’t up to the challenge yet.
Also, I want to get the Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English this year, I started learning for it last year, but I’m still miles away from actually taking the test. So I need to learn more.
